Prologue
Petar Pavlov had scheduled a trip to USA months before the world as we knew it changed. As he was walking in New York he witnessed the new reality and little moments that defined his brief visit.
I found myself in New York during a quite strange period. The situation with the coronavirus was becoming more serious every day and it was interesting to observe how that changes the people walking on the streets.
I have an obsession with hands and details. And some of the passersby have really managed to incorporate protection and style together. Just look at the subtle play of the synthetic gloves, the lace and the bag, contrasted by the powerful yellow color of the coat.
And then – I saw them.

Short Story About Love
They were standing frozen, amidst all the people who were in a hurry, with locked gazes, and a mutually accepted rule that smiling is not allowed. Touching was also out of the question, or at least it seemed on the first inspection until you see the way they intertwined their feet…
Moments like this are pure poetry.

Surrounded, but Isolated
The first signs of isolation were in protective gear, but also in not really knowing what is right. Some people were more prepared and adjusting to new realities, some went as they usually do. Like that, the world was in peril and getting into the unknown. He rearranged the plans and booked a flight to get home.
The whole world was about to change.
But that couple, that scene, stayed etched on his memory. It felt so important.

It took just one photo that I have randomly seen at friends feed to understand that Petar Pavlov had immense talent. I reached out because of that photo. And, years after many collaborations I am always delighted and surprised by the beauty he poignantly creates in any creative medium. This photo of me Petar took at the museum when we went to see the Egon Schiele exhibition in Vienna. There was a lovely place to just sit down and ponder about this moving art experience. I always loved this photo so much. I am in my zone, just happy. He captured that moment.
Recently, I saw a few images from his trip to New York. What I saw in them is an important story to share. I reached to Petar again, shared some thoughts, and here we are.
